Fun-Messy Drinking Versus Bad-Messy Drinking

With summer just around the corner, the COVID-19 positivity rate in New York at it's lowest since the beginning of the pandemic, and restrictions almost disappearing we're all going out to get on the beers with some friends. Pre-pandemic and maybe even during, we've all had those moments the morning after a big night where we think to ourselves, "did I overdo it?" And if you did, was it the good kind of overdoing it or the bad kind?

Researchers say that there's a pretty easy distinction between the two and it all comes down to the motivation behind your drinking habits. Positive motives are good, for example whenever you're drinking in a social setting. Drinking at a celebration, to be sociable, or really just to have fun!

If you have negative reinforcements behind your drinking habits then maybe it's time to take a step back, researchers say. If you're resorting to drinking because you had a terrible day at work or you're frustrated with a partner or friend, it could lead to problems down the road.

As we jump in to summer and a month full of celebrations for Pride, it might be a good opportunity to figure out whether you're the good kind of messy or the bad kind of messy.

*stares blankly at the wall and thinks about every time I was a little too drunk*
